EUREKA — The Sandburg men's basketball team bounced back from a home loss Saturday against Madison by going on the road for a 74-64 win at Eureka JV on Sunday.
SUNDAY
Sandburg 74, Eureka 64
Playing in his hometown, freshman Tyler Heffren connected on 4 of 5 shots from long range and finished with 16 points. The Eureka High School product was 6 of 11 from the field and had five rebounds for the Chargers (4-3) in the victory.
Freshman forward Demarion Honaker tallied 21 points and nine rebounds for Sandburg while making 10 of 15 field goals. Four of Honaker's rebounds came on the offensive glass.
Sophomore Logan Sluder had 15 points, four steals and four assists while shooting 5 for 7, and freshman Davante Bradford delivered 10 points off the bench.
The Chargers held a 41-28 lead at halftime and finished the contest with a 47 percent (30 of 64) field goal percentage.
SATURDAY
Madison 84, Sandburg 72
The Chargers trailed 29-26 at halftime, but Madison opened with eight of the first 10 points of the second half and added a 14-3 stretch to lead 55-37 at the midway point of the second.
Sluder led the Chargers with 20 points and six rebounds. The second-year guard was 5 of 9 from the field and hit 9 of 10 foul shots.
Heffren added 18 points, including a 5-for-10 night from 3-point range. Heffren also had four steals and four rebounds. Honaker totaled 15 points and four boards in the loss.
All five starters for the WolfPack finished in double figures, led by JP Pleasant's 20 points and nine rebounds.
