Heffren’s game-winning 3 with :01.9 left in OT sends Chargers past Lincoln Land

GALESBURG — Tyler Heffren banked in a 25-foot 3-pointer with 1.9 seconds left in overtime to send the Sandburg men's basketball team to a 73-72 win over Lincoln Land on Tuesday at John Lewis Gym.

KEY MOMENTS
• Down 53-46 with 7:30 to go in regulation, the Chargers (3-0) rattled off a 9-0 run to take the lead. Logan Sluder had the first seven points of the stretch, recording a layup, trey and a pair of free throws. Ethan Price's two foul shots with 5:15 left gave Sandburg a 55-46 lead.
• Lincoln Land took a late lead at 61-59, but Sluder connected on a pair of foul shots with :17.5 left in the second half to push the game into overtime.
• The Loggers scored seven of the first nine points in OT, but the Chargers forged another tie at 70-70 with :35 left on Sluder's scooping layup down the right side.
• Michael Tyler's layup with :09 left put Lincoln Land back ahead and set the stage for Heffren's heroics. Coming out of a timeout, the freshman from Eureka received the inbounds pass, took three dribbles to his left and pulled up from NBA range. His rainbow shot banked in and set off a frenzy inside The Lew as the Chargers remained unbeaten.
