Sluder, Schisler Highlight Chargers’ Pair of Weekend Home Wins

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College men's basketball team rode a pair of huge second halves to weekend home victories as the Chargers beat DuPage 84-71 on Saturday and Eureka JV 97-66 on Sunday at John Lewis Gym.

SATURDAY
SANDBURG 84, DUPAGE 71
Key Moments
• The Chargers held the 32-31 lead in the closing minutes of the first half following David Hise's steal-and-layup, but the Chaparrals scored the last 11 points of the half to take a 42-31 lead into the break.
• Sandburg trailed 60-48 with 12 minutes to play before scoring 26 of the next 29 points to pull away with the victory. Marckell Longstreet's dunk off a Jack DuBois assist brought the Chargers to within 62-61 with 7:30 to play. After DuPage split a pair of free throws, Sandburg put together 13 straight points to go ahead for good. Back-to-back layups by Koen Derry gave the Chargers the lead, and Logan Sluder capped the run with a driving layup followed by a 3-pointer and a 74-63 advantage.
• The Chaparrals got within 76-71 with 1:20 to play, but Sluder's three-point play at 1:10 started a streak of Sandburg scoring the final eight points of the contest.

Sandburg Standout
Sluder's effort off the bench helped spark the Chargers' game-turning run in the second half. The freshman finished with 11 points and five assists on 4-of-6 shooting. Sluder scored or recorded an assist on half of Sandburg's points during its 26-3 run in the second half.

SANDBURG 97, EUREKA JV 66
Key Moments
• The Red Devils built an early 19-8 lead after hitting five 3-pointers in the opening 4:00 of the contest. The Chargers answered with an 18-3 run and went on to take a 45-43 lead into halftime.
• Sandburg never trailed in the second half as it held Eureka JV to just 23 points after intermission. Up 57-49, the Chargers rattled off 12 straight points as they opened up a 69-49 lead. Sandburg also scored 15 of the last 17 points in the contest. All 14 players recorded at least one field goal for the Chargers.

Sandburg Standout
Freshman Easten Schisler delivered 10 points off the bench for his first double-digit outing in a Chargers uniform. Schisler was 4 of 5 from the field, including a 2-for-3 performance from 3-point range. He also grabbed four rebounds and had two steals. Schisler's previous best was nine points Nov. 3 against Southeastern.
