Chargers Race Past Owls for 1st Victory to Close Sandburg Classic

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College men's basketball team bounced back from a double-overtime heartbreaker Friday with a blowout victory Saturday for their first win as the Chargers hosted the Sandburg Classic at John Lewis Gym.

FRIDAY
LAKE COUNTY 73, SANDBURG 69 (2OT)
KEY MOMENTS

• The Chargers jumped to an early 23-9 lead in the first 11 minutes and had a 32-24 advantage going into halftime.
• A pair of Jeremiah Babers free throws put Sandburg up 53-45 with 2:38 left in the second half, but the Lancers closed regulation on an 8-0 run to force OT.
• Sandburg was up 61-58 with :06.1 left in overtime after Roee Dinnar split two foul shots, but Lake County's Leirre Collier drained a 3-pointer from the left corner at the buzzer to send the game into another extra period.
• Dinnar's drive with 1:35 left put the Chargers ahead 69-65, the Lake County again put together an 8-0 run, this time to close out the game. Justin St. Louis' trey with :55 left gave the Lancers a 70-69 lead they wouldn't relinquish.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
David Hise had a team-best 12 points while going 5 of 9 from the field. The sophomore also led the Chargers with 10 rebounds for his first career double-double.

SANDBURG 83, OAKTON 55
KEY MOMENTS
• The Chargers led from wire to wire and held the Owls to just 16 first-half points while taking a 20-point lead into halftime.
• Sandburg didn't let up in the second half, opening the final 20 minutes with a 9-3 run. The Chargers took their largest lead at 81-50 on Carter Clary's bucket in the closing minutes.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Freshman Logan Sluder led Sandburg with 20 points off the bench, including 15 of them coming in a dazzling first half. Sluder was 6 of 8 from the field in the opening half. He finished the contest 8 of 10 from the floor and knocked down 4 of his 6 3-point attempts. Sluder also contributed four rebounds, three assists and a steal in the win.
