Derry Scores 17 vs. DMACC as Chargers Drop 2 at Fun City Classic

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa — The Carl Sandburg College men's basketball team dropped a pair of games to nationally ranked opponents at the Fun City Classic on Friday and Saturday.

The Chargers opened with an 89-60 loss Friday to host Southeastern, the 12th-ranked team in NJCAA Division I. Sophomore David Hise led the Chargers with 10 points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting. Hise's night included knocking down both of his 3-point attempts.

Sandburg fell 117-74 on Saturday to Des Moines Area, ranked ninth in NJCAA Division II. Sophomore forward Koen Derry put up a team-high 17 points in the defeat. Derry finished 8 of 10 from the field and matched Ethan Price for the team lead with five rebounds.

Sophomores Roee Dinnar and Marckell Longstreet also turned in double-digit efforts against DMACC. Dinnar scored 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting while adding two assists. Longstreet had 10 points and went 4 for 7 from the floor.

The Chargers will host the four-team Sandburg Classic on Friday and Saturday. Black Hawk, Lake County and Oakton make up the rest of the field.
