Caves’ Career Day Leads Chargers in Comeback Win Over Madison

GALESBURG — Hunter Caves had 16 points and a career-high 10 rebounds for his first double-double as a Charger as the Carl Sandburg College men's basketball team pulled ahead in the closing minutes for an 87-81 win over Madison on Saturday at John Lewis Gymnasium.

KEY MOMENTS
• Madison matched its largest lead of the game at 62-54 midway through the second half on a turnaround jumper by Deante Luster.
• The Chargers (3-5) answered with five straight points on a putback by Idius Robertson and a Caves three-point play to trail 62-59 with 8:36 to go.
• Still trailing 70-65, Sandburg used an 8-0, go-ahead run and never looked back. Tyrese Grose kicked of the run with a layup, and a Nate Hill bucket followed by two Hill free throws gave the Chargers the lead at 71-70 with 5:10 to play. David Hise wrapped up the burst with a layup for a 73-70 lead.
• The Chargers withstood a WolfPack rally down the stretch, using a key 3-pointer from Griffin Ronnebeck and a Grose slam to close out the victory.
