Chargers get great outings from Trinidad, Narvaez but come up short twice to Kougars

MALTA — The Sandburg baseball team got two impressive performances from its starting pitchers, but the Chargers dropped a pair of pitchers' duels in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader Tuesday at Kishwaukee.

Key moments
• The Chargers took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning as Dayton Lundstrom came through with a two-out single to center that brought home Derek Cintron.
The Kougars took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, taking advantage of two hits, a walk and a Sandburg error.
• Brady Veselack drew a one-out walk in the seventh to put the tying run on, but a Jose Narvaez popout and Talen Davis groundout ended the contest. 

Sandburg standout
Yasiel Trinidad took a hard-luck loss after pitching five strong innings. The right-hander allowed two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out a season-high nine batters. It also marked the most strikeouts by a Chargers pitcher this season.

Key moments
• Kishwaukee scored the game's lone run with two out in the second. A double hit batsman and base on ball loaded the bases. A walk with a full count forced in the only tally of the contest.
• Derek Castillo singled with one out in the seventh, but pinch runner Connor Johnson was thrown out trying to steal. Lundstrom kept the game alive with a two-out single, but Veselack struck out to end the game.

Sandburg standout
Chargers starter Jose Narvaez allowed that single run on four hits and five walks over 5.2 innings of work. Narvaez whiffed a career-best eight of the 28 Kougars batters he faced and threw 56 of his 99 pitches for strikes.
