Brown’s Big Day Leads Chargers in Sweep of Oakton

GALESBURG — Bryce Brown had a huge afternoon, reaching base seven times and driving in six, as the Carl Sandburg College baseball team swept Oakton on Saturday at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex in the Chargers' final home contests of the regular season.

KEY MOMENTS
Up 6-4 in the fourth, the Chargers' lead ballooned to six after a four-run frame. Kadin Spencer led off with a single and scored on Mitch Ball's double to left. Frank Kelch later tacked on a three-run shot with two out to put Sandburg ahead 10-4.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Brown reached base four times and scored four runs. The sophomore shortstop went 2 for 2 — including a solo homer in the first — walked twice, drove in a pair of runs and stole a base.

KEY MOMENTS
• After falling behind 4-0 in the top of the first, Sandburg sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the inning and scored seven runs. Kadin Spencer's two-run double put the Chargers ahead 6-4.
• Sandburg scored twice in the fifth to end the game via the mercy rule. Logan Van Heuklon homered to lead off the inning, and Spencer's two-out single plated Payton Hankins to finish the contest.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Designated hitter Jaden Coleman tripled twice in three at-bats, drew a walk, knocked in a run and scored twice.
