Cougars Score Twice Late to Top Chargers 3-2

GALESBURG — Illinois Central pushed across a pair of ninth-inning runs to defeat the Carl Sandburg College baseball team 3-2 Wednesday at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.

KEY MOMENTS
• The Chargers tallied single runs in both the second and third. Bryce Nordstrom's two-out single in the second brought home Michael Kleinhans to open the scoring. The Chargers had runers at the corners in the third when Jaden Coleman swiped home on a double steal to make it 2-0.
• ICC trailed 2-1 entering the ninth but tied it with one away on Riley McCallister's base hit to right, putting runners at first and third. The next batter hit a grounder to second, but the Chargers were unable to turn a double play as the go-ahead run scored.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Coleman reached base three times in four plate appearances out of the leadoff spot. The center fielder went 1 for 2 and walked twice in addition to his steal of home.

PEN PALS
Sandburg had six pitchers who put up a scoreless inning in a bullpen game for the Chargers. They trotted out nine hurlers total in the contest, with only one recording more than three outs. Connor Best, Jack Barham, McKoy Allen, Jason Hise, Charlie Shissler and Frank Kelch each did not allow a run in their inning of work.
