Trinidad twirls 3-hit shutout as Chargers split doubleheader with Highland

GALESBURG — Yasiel Trinidad tossed a three-hit shutout and reached base three times in Game 1 as the Sandburg baseball team split an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader with Highland on Tuesday afternoon.

Key moments
Leading 1-0 in the bottom of the second, the Chargers put up six runs in the second inning. Jose Narvaez had an RBI fielder's choice, Trinidad tripled in a run, Joel Medina collected an RBI double to center and Colton Allen and Dayton Lundstrom capped the inning with back-to-back run-scoring singles.

Sandburg standout
The big inning was more than enough cushion for Trinidad, who shut down the Cougars on just three hits. The righthander fanned seven batters, didn't issue a walk and needed just 69 pitches (45 strikes) to breeze through his six-inning complete game. Trinidad also shined at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a double, a triple, a walk, two runs and an RBI. The number of times he reached base in the win matched the number of hits he allowed.

Key moments
• Trailing 5-2 in the fifth, the Chargers evened the score. Trinidad tripled to lead off the inning and scored on Medina's sacrifice fly. After consecutive singles from Derek Cintron and Allen, Lundstrom doubled to right to cut the deficit to one. Josh Morales followed with a sac fly to plate Allen with the tying run.
• The Cougars quickly went back ahead, using a three-run home run to start the scoring in a six-run top of the sixth.

Sandburg standout
Lundstrom finished 3 for 4 as the top five hitters in the Chargers' lineup each had multiple hits. The left fielder doubled in the second, double again in the fifth and added a singled in the sixth. He scored a run, knocked in a run and stole a base.
